From the Manger to the Cross

Twas the night before Christmas when all thru the town, no room in Bethlehem could even be found.
The donkey was led to the stable with care in hopes that comfort for Mary was there.
The cattle were nestled all snug in their stalls to welcome the travelers and make room for all.
Mary was fearful of what lay ahead, while Joseph prepared the sweet manger bed.
When out in the field there shone such a light, the shepherds fell down and shuddered in fright.
The angels called out on that fine Christmas morn, “Be not afraid, your Savior is born!”
Away to the town the shepherds did run, looking for Jesus – God’s only Son.
The stars in the sky on that wonderful night shone o’er the stable brighter than bright.
When what to their wondering eyes did appear, but Joseph and Mary, and her baby dear.
Laid in a manger, no crown he wore, but they knew in a moment it must be the Lord.
More rapid than eagles His angels they came; they sang and they sang and called Him by name.
Your Savior and Lord, Jesus the Christ, Messiah, the Lamb, your sacrifice,Your teacher and Master and heavenly King; so, on and on the angels did sing.
As dry leaves before the wild hurricane fly, so the days and the years did hurry by.
And then in a twinkling, Mary would share- her son with the world, their sins to bear.
From manger to cross was but a short span for the awesome unmerited redemption of man.
And though we are tarnished with ashes and soot and loaded with baggage from head to foot,
A bundle of blessings he wants to give us, all we have to do is give Him our trust.
The love that He brings from that manger bed, lets us know that we have nothing to dread.
One day in radiant raiment so fine, He’ll come with His angels and say “You are mine”.
Though angels may not be in my sight, I hear them exclaim on each Christmas night,
“I bring tidings of joy to you and your kin, a Savior is born to save you from sin.”
